Last week, we reported on a number of Village of Denmark resident complaints about excessive noise that has been emanating from the Salm Partners facility on the corner of Woodrow Street and North Avenue.

Last week, we reported on the Village of Denmark Board of Trustees approving a bid for the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) on two of the municipality's intersections contingent on a number of factors including advice from the Village's attorney and a cost-sharing proposal from the Denmark School Board.

During last week's Denmark School Board meeting, much of the agenda's time was spent reviewing an updated Facility Plan for the district's three buildings. The discussion centered around lists of improvements and maintenance for each of the schools from now up until the end of the 2028-2029 school year presented by Denmark School District (DSD) Facilities’ Director Jeremy Ginter.

In 1915, the Kriwanek family, who owned the Kriwanek Brothers store downtown, continued their business growth and diversification by opening a Ford Garage across the street from their general store. The dealership was located at 135 Main Street and was the first car dealership in the Village of Denmark.

When you travel south of Cooperstown on County Highway R, you suddenly descend into a wooded river valley noticeably different from the rolling farmland you just left behind. This area, lined by the West Twin River to the east and the Devils River to the north, has a rich and storied history dating back to the earliest European settlers as well as an active and vibrant present with much still to offer.

Last month, we reported on the ongoing expansion project at the Olympic Village mobile home community on the Village of Denmark's southeast side. In the weeks since, The Denmark News has heard from several of the community's residents who have a number of concerns with the park's management as well as their handling of the current expansion project.

While virtually everyone in the greater Denmark area knows our local FFA chapter is an incredibly run organization made up of top-notch young people and advisors, this month, they were given some much-deserved recognition on the national stage. On August 8, for the first time ever, the Denmark FFA was announced as a top ten finalist for the best overall FFA chapter in the nation.

During last Monday's Village of Denmark Board of Trustees meeting, the largest topic of discussion revolved around the municipality's largest business and its relation to its neighbors. The last item on this month's agenda was an "update on issues with noise at Salm Partners" with board members, staff and residents who live near the company's facility on North Avenue and Woodrow Street weighing in on the matter.

Last week, we reported on an unusual storm system that moved its way through northeast Wisconsin on Saturday, August 8, leading many in our local area to report sightings of what appeared to be funnel clouds and rotation. To get a better understanding of just what occurred, we spoke to National Weather Service Meteorologist Jeff Makowski.

On Sunday, the Class of 1973 hosted the annual “50 Plus Alumni Reunion” at Eddie Whipps with over 200 Denmark High School Alumni coming together for a day of reminiscing. Last Wednesday, the Denmark Before and After School Program (BASP) welcomed some special visitors who stopped by to share their love of all things STEM with a fun activity for students to enjoy. That day, the Einstein Project from Green Bay set up shop in the BASP classroom with their "Einstein Sandbox" mobile program, providing a hands-on car construction activity for attendees to enjoy.

Along with the discussion of ongoing noise issues at Salm Partners, another large topic addressed at last week's Village of Denmark Board of Trustees meeting was how to navigate an important feature of public safety. For some time, the Village and School District of Denmark have struggled to find and retain crossing guards for busy intersections before and after school.

During last Monday’s Village of Maribel Board of Trustees meeting, residents provided board members with insights, advice and opinions on several topics. While most municipal meetings are more restrictive on who can speak and when, in Maribel, things are a little more “laid back” and attendees are often asked for their views.
