On Thursday night, the large area of pavement located between the two new Denmark Elementary School playgrounds was filled with families enjoying a free night of entertainment. That evening, the Denmark Community Summer Reading Program hosted their second turn-in event of the summer with nearly 200 people coming out to enjoy a "Movie Under the Stars" on a beautiful summer night.

On Thursday, several special visitors stopped by the weekly Brown County Library Storytime at Veterans Memorial Park in Denmark. That morning, representatives from the NEW Zoo and a number of their critter friends visited the event with their Zoomobile to partner with the library for an annual summer animal exhibition.

This weekend, one and all are invited to take part in a local faith community's annual celebration of summer. On Sunday, Prince of Peace Catholic Community will be hosting their yearly Picnic & Car Show on their grounds featuring a wide range of activities to enjoy throughout the day. This week, we decided to provide a brief preview of the fun that is in store.

Last Tuesday, the Denmark Community Closet hosted an Appreciation Night to celebrate one year in business and to look toward the future and what they hope it holds for their initiative. That night, a number of community members gathered at the home of one of the Closet's organizers--Betty Duckett--to reflect, share gratitude and envision what is next for the community resale shop.

Last Monday, the Denmark School Board hosted their annual meeting in the Denmark High School media center. Convened every summer, the annual meeting is a chance for residents of the school district to take part in the decision-making process.

After adjourning their annual meeting shortly after 6:30 p.m. last Monday night, the Denmark School Board held a short recess before convening their regular monthly meeting in the high school media center. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call showing all members in attendance, the board unanimously approved the night's consent agenda before moving on to the reports.

On Saturday, Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Denmark came alive for a beloved annual summer tradition. That day and night, the 3rd Annual Denmark Fundraising Incorporated (DFI) Denmark Pulls were held on the park's pulling track in an event that featured clouds of smoke, torrents of noise and a whole lot of fun.

On Sunday morning, hundreds of people gathered in the unincorporated community of Cooperstown for a celebration 175 years in the making. That day, the congregation of St. James Catholic Church held an all-day commemoration of the 175th anniversary of the parish's founding featuring prayer, music, reflection, fun and heritage.

On Sunday, the streets of the Village of Denmark were lined throughout town with eager spectators for an annual community tradition. That morning, the Denmark Lions Club hosted the yearly parade featuring a wide variety of local organizations and businesses processing through town. The Denmark News was stationed near Village Hall to witness this year's parade for ourselves.

Immediately following Sunday's parade, one and all were invited to Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Denmark for another long-standing summer tradition. That afternoon, the Denmark Lions Club held their annual picnic in the park with a number of other community organizations also taking part in the fun. We swung by to get a taste of this year's free family fun.

On Saturday, dozens of area farmers, former-farmers, agriculture enthusiasts and their families gathered in a field near Stangelville to take part in a day devoted to tradition, heritage and preserving the past. That day, the Titletown Threshing Club hosted their 14th Annual Thresheree on the Reinke Family Farm where they worked together and showcased antique machinery while harvesting wheat "the old fashioned way".

Last Wednesday night, powerful storms ripped through much of the reading area leading many to seek shelter and causing a good deal of damage. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a large line of storms evolved across central into northeast Wisconsin during the afternoon and early evening of July 23 within a “warm, very humid airmass”.

This weekend, one and all are encouraged to venture out to the northeasternmost corner of the Town of Morrison for a summer bash that is sure to be a blast. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the first-ever “Roostapalooza” will be celebrated at Rooster’s Coop on the corner of County Highway NN and Cooperstown Road and will feature live music, food, drinks and a whole lot of fun.

Last Sunday, Kristen Wartella and Lauren Vandenberg visited the Denmark Historical Museum in the basement of Village Hall to make a presentation honoring their late mother–Mary Ellen Kubsch. That afternoon, the two met with Denmark Historical Society member Mike Albers to present him with a commemorative plaque honoring their mother’s commitment as well as a $1,000 donation in her name.
