Last Wednesday, Way-Morr Park in Morrison was filled with music lovers of all ages for a fun, free night of outdoor entertainment. That night, the Way-Morr Lions Club hosted their second of six scheduled “Music in the Park” concerts for this summer featuring food, fun, and of course, great local musical talent.

At the same time, it also showcased the resilience, ingenuity and generosity of our community. Leading into the weekend, the Maribel Lions Club was well prepared for two days jam-packed with a variety of activities for their annual summer picnic.

Last weekend, the small community of Curran was alive with energy and excitement celebrating four decades of summer fun. From Friday through Sunday, the town's ball diamond hosted the 40th Annual Curran Community Club Slow Pitch Softball Tournament featuring eleven teams competing over three days of athletic action and fun.

This month, several Denmark Middle School FFA and Denmark High School FFA members traveled down to Madison to represent their chapter and their community at the state level. From June 10 through the 13, they took part in this year's 95th annual Wisconsin FFA Convention at the Alliant Energy Center featuring competitions, leadership training and numerous awards.

On Monday, June 17, Denmark area residents had the opportunity to view and participate in a unique and solemn religious experience. That morning, the Marian Route of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage visited both Denmark and Maribel on their week's long spiritual journey toward Indianapolis. The Denmark News was in attendance at both sites to learn more about this reverent voyage.

When this weekend's soggy weather resulted in the cancelation of all of Saturday's portion of the Maribel Lions Picnic, one local business stepped up to save a piece of it and still provide a night of top-notch live music. On Saturday night, Annex, who was slated to perform in Maribel, instead took the stage at Cassie's Coop for a wild night of indoor fun.

Last Monday, Way-Morr Park entered a new era of outdoor recreation with the unveiling of its newest feature. That night, Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach and Brown County Parks Director Matt Kriese joined representatives from the Town of Morrison to cut a ceremonial ribbon marking the opening of the park's new pickleball courts.

Last Wednesday, before their monthly meeting, members of the Denmark American Legion Johnson-Hershman Post 363 took time to assemble and load donated items they had been collecting for a great cause. For the last two months, Legion families have been collecting a number of items to help residents at the Major General Jacob Brown Green Bay Veterans Manor on Anthony Drive.

On Monday, crews began work on the extensive North Avenue and Danish Way reconstruction project disrupting traffic throughout the summer until the project is complete. Last Thursday, Denmark Early Childhood Center (ECC) students took part of their last day of school to contribute to a great cause. That morning, ECC 5K students made the trek to the nearby Denmark Community Cupboard to drop off hundreds of items to help those in need in our community.
