Viking Rescue Squad was product of community effort

In 1974, a bill was passed by the state of Wisconsin that required ambulance service operators to obtain special training and licensing. Soon after this, on April 30, 1975, Lyman DeWane informed the village board that the DeWane Ambulance Service, which had served the area faithfully for about 30 years, would cease operations at the end of the year.
