Vikings win third straight with rout of Marines

DENMARK – Donavan Short led a nearly flawless offensive outing for Denmark in an 86-64 pasting of winless Marinette on Friday night in Marinette

Short had 25 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, fourassists and two steals as Denmark sizzled the nets to the tune of,unofficially, 31 of 50 from the field, 9 of 16 from three and 15 of 18 from theline. The Vikings also won the battle of the boards, 31-16.

DENMARK – Donavan Short scored 28 points and Denmark pulled off its biggest win of the year, stunning Freedom, 61-53, on Saturday night in Freedom.

The Vikings (3-2), who snapped a two-game losing streak,held off a second-half charge by previously unbeaten Freedom (3-1). The Irishwhittled a 14-point deficit to five with a 9-0 run midway through the half. Butthey never got closer than that.

School Holds Off on In-Person For Another Week

Virtual instruction will continue for Denmark public school students for at least one additional week than anticipated, District Administrator Luke Goral announced at the start of the week. 

Manitowoc County Hosts Community Test Site

 Manitowoc County and the Wisconsin National Guard will be hosting a recurring COVID-19 community testing site at the Manitowoc County Expo Center, 4921 Expo Dr., Manitowoc. 

The agencies undertook the first of four testing days on Tuesday. The next three will run at the site from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each of the following days:

IAM STRIKE
Appleton Machinists Striking

In Appleton, 89 workers employed at AstenJohnson, makers of specialty fabrics for the paper industry, went on strike over the company’s proposal to increase out-of-pocket health care costs for its workers. The workers are the Local 1855 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). The strike began on Oct. 16 and has yet to be resolved.

In-Person School Resumes as Virus Cases Remain Elevated

tudents and staff returned to in-person school instruction on Monday after three weeks of doing business and study remotely as a result of the area’s boom in positive coronavirus tests following the Sept. 1 start of classes. 

Transmission of the virus within the Denmark School District appears to have stalled in the interim, according to census tract-level data from the state Dept. of Health Services (DHS).

Signs of life, but another loss for the Vikings

DENMARK – Last season, such a loss would have had coaches, players and fans pulling their hair and gnashing their teeth. 

Last season, a 40-14 loss to Fox Valley Lutheran would not have set well with anyone in the Denmark community.
