April Blizzard Brings Shrugs & Shivers

DENMARK — Parking lot snow banks towered above vehicles, bumpy and slippery rides accompanied already slow-moving traffic, and homeowners shoveling out their driveways and sidewalks were treated to vigorous upper body workouts. DENMARK — Protecting against the unpredictable is often a stressful process. As school shootings have continued, however intermittently, to capture national attention, review of security protocol has become a common facet of every district administration.

by Charles Collier, The Denmark News

DENMARK — Not often is one greeted by a 365-person standing ovation, but the collection of Northeast Wisconsin students, instructors, and their families at Denmark High School offered just that on Saturday afternoon when one of Wisconsin’s most recognizable names entered the auditorium-turned-banquet hall.

Samantha George

George enjoys spending her time outdoors, ranking Fonferek’s Glen and the Devils River Trail among two of her favorite non-Badlands hiking spots. Oh yeah, and the nature trails of UW-Green Bay.

“I love UWGB because it’s just full forest,” she says, marking the trails and the university’s environmental science reputation as large reasons for her decision to pursue a Ecology and Conservation degree there.

by Kelly Fenton, The Denmark News

DENMARK – Though the Denmark High School softball team has thus far battled only the lower-division teams in the North Eastern Conference, it has been impressive in running up a 4-0 mark, demonstrating none of the rust you might expect from a team kept indoors by weather for most of April.

Playing Their Part

by Charles Collier, The Denmark News

TISCH MILLS—A simple message welcomes travelers to the unincorporated community of Tisch Mills along the border of Manitowoc and Kewaunee counties minutes inland from Two Rivers. It reads, “No mayor, no city council. Life’s good!” underwriting, in subtle but certain terms, a rural mindset of collective preferences guiding community culture.
