New barber in town

Recently, a longtime Denmark institution entered into a new era with a new friendly face at the helm. Last month, Edwin Ruiz took over the beloved barber shop formerly known as Home Town Hair Center which has been operated by Dave Hermans for almost 30 years. Last week, we sat down with Hermans and Ruiz to discuss what lies in store for each of them as well as the shop's customers.

Maribel November 2024 Meeting

On Monday night, the Maribel Village Board held their monthly meeting in the Community Center in Village Park. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call, the board unanimously approved the Treasurer's Report and last month's meeting minutes. Village Clerk Dale Bomski then went over this month's vouchers, explaining any outliers before the board unanimously approved.

November 2024 School Board Meeting

Last Monday, the Denmark School Board hosted their monthly meeting in the Denmark High School (DHS) Media Center. Prior to this month's meeting, board members and staff performed a walkthrough of the newly-finished elementary school cafeteria and kitchen with the district's Director of Dining Services Jody Behringer to see the progress of the soon-to-be-open facilities.

Village of Denmark November 2024 Meeting

Last Monday, the Village of Denmark held its monthly board meeting in the Village Hall. In an extremely short meeting by village standards, the board heard reports and discussed criteria for possibly waiving municipal fees.

Cooperstown November 2024 Meeting

On Tuesday, the Town of Cooperstown hosted their monthly board meeting at their Town Hall in Rosecrans. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call showing all three members present, the board unanimously approved the night's agenda and the minutes from their October meetings before proceeding to the monthly reports to the board.

St. John Veterans Program 2024

Last Friday, area veterans and their families were invited for one more annual salute to their service from area schoolchildren in Maribel. That morning, St. John Lutheran School hosted their annual Veterans Day Program featuring presentations, prayer and patriotic music. The Denmark News was in attendance to learn more.

Denmark Community Activity Center happenings

New and exciting things are happening at the Denmark Community Activity Center (DCAC) located in the lower level of 141 Highridge Avenue! This month, the center has begun hosting two new initiatives on Wednesday mornings that are aimed at drawing the community closer together. Last week, we spoke with organizers to learn more.

Hides for Heroes

This hunting season, Denmark area sportsmen have an opportunity to help out those who have served our nation. For the next month, the Denmark Middle School FFA will be hosting a deer hide collection site near their school as part of the annual "Hides for Heroes" initiative aimed at aiding veterans by providing programs and services.

Denmark Christmas Tree Lighting preview

This year, a new fun and festive holiday event is being planned in the Village of Denmark to kick off the Christmas Season. On November 30, a multitude of local businesses and organizations will join together to present the new Village of Denmark Christmas Tree Lighting Event featuring tons of fun for all ages to enjoy.

Saluting those who have served

Last Monday, Americans gathered across the nation to pay honor and respect to those who have served in observance of Veterans Day 2024. In Denmark, the elementary and high school each hosted local veterans for morning services following the previous Friday's program at the middle school. The services featured speakers, presentations and patriotic music provided by students.

Throughout the 1800s, the area comprising the Village of Denmark and the Township of New Denmark went by several names.

FFA National Convention 2024

Last month, a number of local young leaders made a nearly 800-mile round-trip journey to represent our community on the national stage. From October 22-26, sixteen members of the Denmark High School FFA and their advisors traveled to Indianapolis for this year’s FFA National Convention.

C&C Small Library

A new initiative has just launched at Denmark's Main Street Market that should have all local book lovers rejoicing. In the last couple weeks, a new shelf has appeared in the store that does not contain any food products or anything that is even for sale. The "C&C Small Library" aims to provide a variety of books to adult readers at no cost and is currently stocked with a number of great reads to borrow.

Camp Tapawingo Craft Extravaganza 2024

Last Saturday, hundreds made their way out to Camp Tapawingo for a unique event to kick off the holiday season in a beautiful, one-of-a-kind setting. That day, the Friends of Wisconsin Camp Tapawingo (FWCT) hosted their third annual Holiday Craft Extravaganza featuring a wide variety of homemade and handmade items for holiday shoppers to peruse. The Denmark News took a trip out to learn more.

"Artistry in Wood" 2024

Last weekend, the large gymnasium at Denmark High School (DHS) was transformed into an amazing spectacle of top-notch artistic talent. On Saturday and Sunday, the Northeastern Wisconsin (N.E.W.) Woodworkers Guild hosted their 41st annual “Artistry in Wood” show featuring a plethora of unique handcrafted items. The Denmark News stopped by to learn more about this crafty yearly tradition.

Behind the scenes with "The Addams Family"

Last weekend, “The Addams Family” took the Denmark High School stage by storm with three packed performances in the school’s Performing Arts Center. The macabre and melodramatic family of misfits will feature in three more shows this weekend before marking the end of another fall musical season.

DMS Veterans Day Program 2024

Last Friday, Denmark Middle School (DMS) paid respect to all those who have served our nation during an annual display of respect and patriotism. That morning, the school's staff and students hosted their yearly Veterans Day Program in the school's gymnasium featuring patriotic music, speakers, awards and the honoring of area veterans.

Halloween 2024

Last Thursday, legions of costumed youngsters and their families took to the streets in neighborhoods across the country in search of this year's fill of sweet treats. The annual Halloween traditions were in full swing in Denmark and surrounding communities with plenty of fun and candy for all who took part in this year's trick or treat tradition.
