Of all the traditions that are associated with the state of Wisconsin, none may be more ubiquitous, or more delicious, than the weekly Friday Fish Fry. Every week, thousands of Wisconsinites gather in establishments across the state to feast on the traditional fare as well as enjoy each other's company. While the Friday Night Fish tradition is observed by many throughout the year, it gains even more popularity during the Lenten season leading up to Easter.

Last month, a select group of students from Denmark Middle School had the chance to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity aimed at strengthening their leadership abilities. On Thursday, January 18, ten DMS students represented Denmark at the annual Green Bay Packers Empower leadership event held at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

In today's modern world, quality internet service is no longer the optional luxury it once was but rather a constant necessity that is an essential part to so many aspects of our daily life. While the lion's share of internet service is provided by giant corporations that essentially own monopolies on large coverage areas, smaller, more local providers are cropping up across the country with the goal of providing something better.

Tagging along with his dad, Tim, the Denmark youngster got to intimately know dirt track racing. However, it wasn’t until three years ago that Cole got into a car himself and started racing.

Last Thursday, several students from Denmark Elementary School made a trip to the railroad depot on Pine Street for a special drop off. That afternoon, items raised from the school's recent "Hygiene Hub" were delivered to Viking Shield where they will be distributed to families in need throughout the year.

Last Saturday, Neshota Park in New Denmark was alive with activity and excitement one would not usually expect from a county park during the depths of winter. That evening, the Friends of Neshota Park hosted their annual candlelit night hike through their park featuring adventure and fun for one and all. Last week, communities across the country took part in a week of celebration highlighting the benefits of local parochial schools. From January 28 to February 3, Catholic Schools Week was observed in the United States with activities, showcases and prayer throughout. In Denmark, All Saints Catholic School took part in the festivities with a number of fun and thoughtful undertakings.

Recently, we reported on OneDenmark's upcoming involvement in the Give BIG Green Bay program, a fundraising initiative facilitated and sponsored by the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation in partnership with the Green Bay Packers Foundation.

Last week, many in the Denmark area were saddened to hear about the passing of longtime community fixture Lawrence Mancheski on Friday January 19, 2024. Mancheski was very well known and respected throughout the community for both his decades-long career in local business and his lifetime commitment to local organizations.

With only one month in, the Denmark High School Bands have already had an exciting and busy year in 2024. Director Vicky Wilda and her students have been hard at work over the past few weeks with a number of activities aimed at showcasing and honing their tremendous talent.

Last week, All Saints Catholic Church in Denmark received a new temporary addition to the back of the altar in their sanctuary. On January 18, scaffolding was erected behind the altar to the top of the stained-glass window on the church's back wall. 

This week, All Saints Catholic School in Denmark is joining with similar institutions across the country to commemorate this year's Catholic Schools Week promoting faith-filled education and celebrating all that makes it special. To kick off the week of fun and prayerful activities, All Saints students and staff took part in the weekly Sunday morning Mass and hosted a social afterward.

On Saturday, January 27, All Saints Parish Hall was host to a unique and tasty fundraiser for a great cause. That night, all were welcome to come and enjoy a delicious loaded baked potato dinner and support One Degree Youth Ministry at the same time.

This month, a Denmark area native achieved something very few can also claim when his first book was published. On January 9, Matt Dixon released "Swamp Monsters: Trump vs. DeSantis--the Greatest Show on Earth (or at Least in Florida)” telling the inside story of the tumultuous relationship between the two allies turned rivals and their competing campaigns for the US Presidency.

Last Tuesday, students from Denmark High School's construction class were able to take part in a one-of-a-kind tour aimed at teaching them more about different aspects of trades. That morning, the students were led on a guided tour of the active referendum improvement jobsite in order to learn more about the various crafts at work and how they are able to successfully work together to pull off large projects.

Last weekend, one Denmark area resident got to experience something that few, if any, readers can say they have also done, much less at the age of 13. On Sunday, Tyler Love attended the premiere of a short film he co-starred in "The Last Rung On the Ladder" at Venue 404 in Oshkosh. The film is part of the Dollar Baby Program sponsored by renowned author Stephen King.

Last Thursday, area firefighters and first responders were called into action for an emergency event in the Village of Denmark. That afternoon, a fire occurred at the Denmark Non Profit Housing Corporation apartment building on the western side of Highridge Avenue leading to the evacuation and ongoing displacement of some residents.
