The Eastern Wisconsin Excellence in Education Awards celebrate the incredible educators and school staff who make a difference in students’ lives every single day.

Editor’s Note: This month, Jim Falkowski of the Town of Gibson is wrapping up 12 years of service as the Manitowoc County Supervisor for the 19th District. He sent us this reflection on his time on the board which we wanted to share with our readers. With Easter this coming Sunday, families across the nation will be out and about this weekend looking for their own stash of colorful Easter eggs. Locally, five organizations are getting in on the egg hunting action with plenty of fun and candy to go around.

On Sunday, the gold gymnasium and atrium at Denmark High School (DHS) were overflowing both with people and artistic talent as the middle and high school art departments and bands came together for this year's Band Extravaganza and Art Show.

On Tuesday, Americans will head to the polls for this year’s spring elections. Locally, along with the school referendum, voters will be asked to fill one position on the Denmark School Board and three on the Village of Denmark Board of Trustees.

On Saturday, hundreds flooded into the Northeast Asphalt gravel pit on County Highway BB near Cooperstown for this year’s Denmark Lions Consignment Auction. 

The Haven of Manitowoc County is a men’s homeless shelter located in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Guided by its motto of “more than just a roof”, The Haven is dedicated not only to providing temporary shelter but also to advocating for homeless men by connecting them with vital community resources and fostering a sense of dignity, stability, and hope for long-term self- sufficiency.

A large and engaged crowd gathered Wednesday evening at the Fairway Inn & Suites for a powerful and emotional Sextortion Awareness Community Event hosted by the Mishicot Police Department and the Yindra family, with support from the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

After years of inspiring young musicians, O.H. Schultz Elementary is preparing to say goodbye to longtime music teacher Deb Mueller as she heads into retirement. Known for her passion, dedication, and ability to connect with students, Mueller leaves behind a lasting legacy in the Mishicot school community.

From March 15 through March 17, 2026, the Village of Mishicot was hit hard by a powerful winter storm known as Blizzard Elsa. The blizzard brought intense snowfall and strong winds, dumping nearly 20 inches of snow within the first 24 hours. As conditions rapidly worsened, roads became hazardous, visibility dropped, and daily routines were disrupted.

Over this past weekend, seniors from the Denmark High School Band traveled with Band Director Andy Pagel to the Windy City on a special trip. While in Chicago, students attended a candlelit performance by a professional string quartet, explored the Miracle Mile and visited the Shed Aquarium, Willis Tower and Alder Planetarium. The group even had a chance to enjoy some traditional Chicago deep-dish pizza at the legendary Gino’s.

Returning to our historical tour through downtown, this week's entry brings us to the large stone structure on the corner of Main Street and Broadway. For 120 years now, the two-story building has served the Denmark community through a variety of purposes and still remains an active business to this day.

During this month's Village of Denmark Board of Trustees meeting, a considerable amount of time was spent discussing issues with drainage in Daybreak Estates, specifically on properties on Woodrow Street and Hidden Hollow Court. The problems surround a stream, labeled as an "unnamed tributary of the Neshota River" which runs west to east, snaking through Daybreak Estates on the northern end of the village.

On Sunday afternoon, the greater Denmark community is invited to Denmark High School for an afternoon showcasing young artistic talent. That day, the Denmark High School (DHS) and Denmark Middle School (DMS) band and art departments will come together for this year’s Band Extravaganza and Art Show in the high school gymnasium and athletic atrium.

One and all are encouraged to stop out to the Northeast Asphalt gravel pit on County Highway BB this Saturday for this year’s Denmark Lions Club Consignment Auction featuring hundreds of items going to the top bidder to raise funds for the organization. Thrifters, bargain seekers and community-minded shoppers now have a new local destination for new and gently-used clothing items as the Denmark Community Closet settles into their new location at 128 Main Street. We stopped by on Friday to learn more.

While it may not exactly feel like it weatherwise, according to the calendar, spring has officially sprung and individuals and organizations are preparing for the soon-to-come warm up. The Denmark Community Gardens is no exception, with organizers planning and preparing for the spring planting season.
