This weekend, while Denmark wrestlers were vying for the top spot at this year’s Team State competition in La Crosse, a different kind of Denmark team was facing off in Green Bay in their own State-level competition.

On February 27 and 28, nine area dancers headed south to showcase their talents at a higher level. After an impressive regular season that culminated with a fourth consecutive trip to State, the Denmark Dance Team took to the nationwide stage for this year's Contest of Champions Dance Nationals in Orlando. The Denmark News spoke with parents and members of the team to learn more.

On February 21 and 22, the Denmark Middle School 8th Grade Basketball Team competed in the Wisconsin State 8th Grade Tournament achieving a flawless 5-0 record over the weekend with both final games extending to overtime. The Denmark Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) recently had a very successful Soup and Cereal Drive. Over the course of two weeks, we collected well over five hundred cans of soup and cereal boxes for the Denmark CHOW program. CHOW weekly gives food to families in our community, and they have recently seen a shortage in cereal and soup.

On Sunday, the Denmark Knights of Columbus (KC) Father Platta Council #4735 hosted the acclaimed MacDowell Male Chorus for a special concert celebrating America in the Denmark High School (DHS) Performing Arts Center.

Last Tuesday night, the Denmark High School (DHS) Performing Arts Center (PAC) was transported back in time as Denmark Elementary School (DES) 5th grade students presented an evening of rock and roll hits from the 50s and 60s as they staged “Rock and Roll Forever - How it All Began” to a packed house.

On February 20 and 21, the Denmark High School Ice Fishing Club took part in this year’s Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association (WIFA) which was held on a number of lakes along the Wisconsin River between Stevens Point and Wausau.

This week, our historical trip around the Village of Denmark has taken The Denmark News back home to our offices at 116 Main Street. The large structure has towered over downtown for over nine decades and has known many different purposes in that time. Let us now explore the building that has been home to a brewery, a warehouse, a village hall, a library, an eye clinic, a hardware store and more.

When emergencies occur, communities count on a number of apparatuses to respond and come to their aid including police, firefighters, EMTs and government bodies. Recently, the Village of Denmark has been taking steps to ensure they are more prepared if disaster were to strike with the appointment of Brandon Ackley as the new municipal Emergency Manager.

On Saturday, March 14, one and all are welcome to come together for a unique community event aimed at bringing people together and sharing unique talents. That afternoon, Denmark Connects will host a "Denmark Teaching Denmark" event at the former All Saints School with a wide array of free classes available for a diverse range of interests.

For over 115 years now, Dufeck Wood Products has been a manufacturing fixture of the Denmark community, crafting an array of fine wares from their facility on the corner of Maple and Jorgenson Street. Along with being a prominent business, the family-run firm has left a profound impact on the community in many other ways.

This past weekend, Rooster’s Coop in rural Morrison was bustling with hundreds of supporters coming out to help a great local cause. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Rooster’s crew hosted the 42nd Annual CP Blindman’s Volleyball Tournament with over thirty teams facing off in the modified volleyball and plenty of other fun to go around.

This past week, the Mishicot FFA Chapter celebrated National FFA Week with a variety of dress-up days, engaging activities, and meaningful community service projects. This week served as a reminder of the chapter’s commitment to leadership, personal growth, and agricultural education.

Mishicot High School has officially named Joe Baeten as its new varsity football head coach, promoting a familiar face who has already spent years building relationships within the program.

On Saturday, February 28, 2026, Mishicot junior Owen Schacht stepped onto the mat for the biggest match of his season at the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament Championship. Wrestling with confidence and control, Schacht earned a major decision victory (14-5) over second-seeded Nolan Hanke of Lancaster High School to claim the state title. His dominant performance capped off an already remarkable season and solidified his place among Mishicot’s top athletes.

School history was made this season as Debra Kuss became the first girls’ wrestler from Mishicot High School to qualify for the state tournament. Her achievement marks a major milestone, not only for the wrestling program but for girls’ athletics in the Mishicot community.

On Thursday, February 19, 2026, the Mishicot Music and Art Departments hosted their annual Debuts and Desserts event in the Performing Arts Gym at Mishicot High School. Mishicot High School Band Director Jacob Van Dyke, who founded the event several years ago, can be credited with bringing the collaborative showcase to life.
