Owen Schacht is putting together a historic wrestling season, establishing himself as one of the top competitors in the state. Schacht currently holds an impressive 35–1 record, with his only loss coming in the semifinals at Bay Port earlier this season. He later earned redemption by defeating that same opponent at the Northern Badger Wrestling Classic, proving his resilience and determination.

The winter season can be brutal on one’s health in numerous ways. From seasonal illnesses, to the physical toll of wintry weather, to the mental and emotional strain created by the lack of daylight and increased solitude, the cold weather months can wreak havoc on our wellbeing. Last week, we reported on a new one-stop shop in the Village of Denmark that will now be serving a variety of health and wellness needs from one location. What some may not know is there is a similar facility just to our north that also covers a wide range of full-body and mind-healing services under one roof.

During halftime of Friday’s home boys’ basketball game, the Denmark Dance Team recognized parents and celebrated their senior team members. Dance team members presented their parents with yellow roses before giving gifts to the four seniors and reading tributes to their time together. The Denmark Dance Team will be taking part in the WACPC State Competition this weekend in La Crosse.

On Thursday, representatives from numerous area organizations, businesses and the general community gathered in Village Hall to discuss a vision of a more united community.

The third entry in our new Downtown Denmark: Past & Present series takes us to the grand two-story building at 118 Main Street which has served a number of commercial, governmental and community needs over the last century.

Last Monday, over 150 people gathered in a conference room at the Grey Fox Bar & Grill in Mishicot to discuss a growing issue that has recently exploded onto the local scene. While talks of potential AI data centers in our area originated to the west in the Greenleaf area, rumors of such a development are now circulating to the east in the Town of Mishicot.

On Saturday, hundreds upon hundreds flocked to Neshota Park in New Denmark to take part in a unique walk in the woods. That night, the Friends of Neshota hosted their annual Candlelight Hike through the park with adventurers from across the area and beyond joining in for an evening stroll along the trail. The Denmark News joined this year's hikers to experience this yearly winter celebration for ourselves.

In 2016, Mrs. Carrie Sand, a Mishicot High School Teacher in the English Department, created Mishicot’s Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). Harpt Lake is excited to host its 43rd Annual Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8. The derby goes until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and is located at 16306 Harpt Lake Road.

A familiar landmark in Mishicot is on a new chapter as the opening of the Grey Fox Bar & Grill at Fairway Inn & Suites aims to restore the community spirit that once made the area “the place to be”.

On Sunday, January 18, Mishicot hosted its annual youth wrestling tournament.  Competing in ages from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade, there were nearly four hundred wrestlers in attendance. Mishicot alone had over fifty wrestlers compete. Mishicot ended the tournament with a second-place finish as a team, with many individuals placing on the podium.

Earlier this month, students from Denmark’s Viking Academy (VA) “put their creativity and business skills to the test” when they took part in a project inspired by the hit ABC television show Shark Tank.

This coming Monday and next, Denmark Connects is offering free courses on how to sign up for online educational opportunities through the Brown County Library. On February 2 at 1:30 p.m. and on February 9 at 6:30 p.m., Denmark Connects will be at the Denmark Community Activity Center offering assistance for signing up for “Gale Courses” through the Brown County Library System.

During their meeting this month, the Village of Denmark Board of Trustees officially approved the municipality's new Emotional Support Animal (ESA) policy after months of debate.
