Next weekend, audiences in the Denmark High School (DHS) Performing Arts Center will be transported back in time to a swanky mansion in winter 1940 where a cast of larger-than-life characters will present them with a zany and hilarious whodunit with an array of twists and turns along the way. “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” debuts next Friday, Saturday and Sunday with three chances to see this one-of-a-kind show.

Last Wednesday, the Village of Denmark Economic Development Committee held a Public Information Meeting regarding a parcel of land that may become Denmark's newest neighborhood. The roughly 34-acre lot is situated between Hager Road and County Highway R and is currently owned by the Village who are now in negotiations to potentially sell it to Lexington Homes.

Having just completed the new middle school, which was the largest building project for the district in over 20 years, the Denmark School District quickly turned its sights to the aging high school.

Last Monday's monthly Denmark School Board Meeting featured several presentations from Denmark High School (DHS) students. Although The Denmark News was unable to attend the entire meeting, we thought it would be beneficial to share with district residents the content of these presentations.

Last Monday night, the Village of Maribel hosted their monthly board meeting in their community center in the village park. Prior to the meeting, the board held a Public Hearing to address a rezoning request in their TID district. The property is currently owned by Maribel Grain and is in the process of being purchased by Northern Concrete who plans to build their new shop and offices there.

Last Tuesday, the Town of Cooperstown held their monthly board meeting in their Town Hall in Rosecrans. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call showing all three members in attendance, the board unanimously approved the night's agenda. Their last meeting's minutes were also unanimously approved after a sentence was struck regarding the discussion surrounding Radtke Road.

Last Monday, the Denmark Village Board held their monthly meeting in Village Hall. Although their decision following the closed session will have historic implications for the village (see page 1), the rest of their meeting was brief and quite routine.

On Saturday, Denmark Connects hosted their second ever Luncheon focused on sharing information about benefits and services available to aging members of our community. The event was a rescheduling of a previously-slated dinner that was canceled due to weather but still managed to bring in nearly 150 attendees to Gatherings 43. The Denmark News stopped by to learn more.

On Thursday, audiences in the Denmark High School (DHS) Performing Arts Center (PAC) were transported back in time to the era of noble knights, fair ladies and castles. That night, the Denmark Elementary School (DES) 4th Grade Class performed a musical entitled, "Joust - A Mighty Medieval Musical" by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson to a packed house of supporters.

On Friday evening, much of the greater Denmark community descended on Washington Street in downtown Green Bay for a truly one-of-a-kind night out on the town. That night, the historic Meyer Theater was host to an evening of music, showmanship, laughs and even a little magic all surrounding the final public performance of a Denmark legend–Tom VanGroll–who is better known to his legions of fans as “TV Tommy” or “Wimpy”.

Last week, the Denmark Village Board unanimously approved an offer from Lexington Homes to purchase roughly 34 acres of property located within the municipality’s TIF District. We have been informed Lexington has plans to use the purchased land to construct both another apartment complex as well as over fifty new homes.

A recent ruling by the Wisconsin Court of Appeals could potentially change how local municipal meetings are conducted. On Tuesday, February 18, the Court ruled the Marinette City Council violated Wisconsin Open Meeting Law on two occasions when it convened closed sessions to discuss issues related to PFAS.

Last week, we ventured out towards Stangelville to meet with a longtime area resident and local history expert. Alvin Cherney has called the community home his entire nearly nine decades of life and has more than a few interesting and fun stories to tell from that time.

On Tuesday, the Village of Denmark Public Safety Committee convened a meeting in the conference room of Village Hall. Topics discussed included the contracting of an animal response team, a proposal for crossing guards in the village and the level of police coverage needed in the municipality now and in the future. Last Monday, the Denmark High School Performing Arts Center was host to an evening of entertainment showcasing the wide range of student talents found in the school. That night, members of the DHS Band and Choir came together to present the second annual "Denmark Recital Night" featuring 18 unique acts that highlighted a wide variety of artistic skill.

Last Tuesday, area business owners, community leaders, farmers and various other supporters gathered in the Denmark High School Performing Arts Center for a unique fundraising tradition. That night, the Denmark FFA hosted their yearly "Worker & Pie Auction" in the theater featuring hundreds of hours of work and dozens of desserts being sold to raise thousands of dollars for the organization.

On Thursday, the Denmark High School (DHS) Performing Arts Center (PAC) was overflowing with attendees for the annual Denmark Elementary School (DES) 5th Grade Concert. This year, DES Music Teacher Tammy Carley and her students transported guests to a tropical paradise while performing a musical entitled "Hawaiian Beach Party" by Andy Beck and Brian Fischer.
