On Saturday morning, the R. O. Miller Athletic Complex outside Denmark High School (DHS) was buzzing with excitement and goodwill for an annual event celebrating an amazing cause. That morning, Denmark Sting Cancer hosted their 15th Annual Sting Cancer Walk featuring a combination of fun and thoughtful activities all aimed at celebrating the continuing fight against cancer.

On Thursday night, the Denmark High School Performing Arts Center (PAC) was host to three back-to-back concerts showcasing local young musical talent. That night, Mr. Dennee and his three grades of bands took the stage for this year’s Denmark Middle School (DMS) Spring Band Concerts featuring a range of music beautifully performed on a variety of instruments. A half century ago, a junior at Clintonville High School walked into the WBAY television studio. It’s a moment that changed Bill Schmidt’s life forever.

Last month, students from Denmark High School (DHS) partnered with the American Red Cross for an annual life-saving initiative. In April, the DHS Student Council hosted their annual blood drive in the school’s multi-purpose room with dozens of fellow students and community members contributing to their efforts. Last week, many across the Denmark community were saddened to hear of the passing of longtime community fixture Kenneth “Kenny” Peterson on April 28. Peterson was a lifelong resident of Denmark and served the community in a variety of ways throughout his life. He was 82.

Last month, Denmark area residents gained a new option for their internet service needs. On April 17, Bug Tussel announced a new wireless internet tower had been brought online in the community of Buckman located just north of Fontenoy on County Highway P. The company states their new tower will bring area residents expanded options for high-speed internet service and has the potential to provide service for nearly 700 homes and businesses.

This weekend, deal seekers and treasure hunters from across the area and beyond will set their sights on our community for an annual bargaining tradition over 30 years in the making. On Friday and Saturday, the DCBA will host the 34th Annual Denmark Village-Wide Rummage Sale featuring over 100 individual vendors spread across the village and the surrounding area.
