Denmark Connects Snow Angel program returns

Last week definitively proved that, like it or not, winter weather is now upon us. While clearing snow out of the driveway and off of sidewalks is inconvenient for anyone, for some, it is all but impossible. Luckily, a number of caring and dedicated community members have taken it upon themselves to help shovel out those in need of assistance.

Cooperstown Bar No More

Last week, a Cooperstown landmark came down with the demolition of the former bar building on the corner of County Highway R and Zander Road. The structure, which is estimated to have been built in 1874, has hosted a variety of taverns over time before serving as a radio station for the last few years. The structure was irrevocably damaged in a wind storm this summer.

"Motive" takes St. Norberts

Jingling and mingling in Tisch Mills

On Saturday, the community of Tisch Mills got a head start on the Christmas season fun with an event that stretched across the town. That day, the Tisch Mills Business Association brought local businesses, organizations and residents together for the community's 5th Annual Jingle & Mingle which featured five unique locations to shop, eat, and have some good old-fashioned, small-town holiday fun.

Pumpkin Ball proceeds donated

This month, the Eaton Beavers, of the Eaton Community Baseball Diamond, were out and about giving back to others. Each September, the diamond is host to an annual Pumpkin Ball tournament with each year’s proceeds being donated to local non-profits and sports organizations. This year, organizers presented $1,000 each to the Denmark Fire Department and the Denmark Vikings Trap Team!

Do you have the "Best Lights in Town"?

Calling all local Clark Griswalds! This holiday season, The Denmark News is bringing back our annual Christmas light and decoration contest to determine who has the best and brightest local display. With this weekend's observance of Thanksgiving, the third annual "Best Lights in Town" contest is now underway with nominations being accepted until December 17.

"Christmas in the Village" set for December 6

On Saturday, December 6, the community of Mishicot will be enveloped by the holiday spirit as a number of local businesses team up with the Mishicot Business Association to present "Christmas in the Village". The festive fun will stretch across town at 13 different locations with hours varying from site to site.

Christmas takes over Gatherings 43 this weekend

This weekend, along with all the Christmas fun taking place at the annual Tree Lighting and Poinsettia Sale, a local dining hall will be hosting two of their own holiday events.

Where to see Santa

For youngsters, an essential part of the holiday season is meeting or corresponding with the big bearded man from way up north to report on their behavior over the last year and negotiate their demands for Christmas morning. The annual conference with Santa Claus is a beloved holiday tradition for many families leading to a busy schedule for the iconic figure.

Sounds of the season

Of all the trappings of the Christmas season, one of the most iconic will always be the litany of holiday-themed music. For many, the season is marked with an endless playlist of seasonal hits ranging from traditional hymns to modern pop. Luckily, residents of the greater Denmark area have numerous opportunities to experience some of this music performed live by our talented young people.

Toys, crafts and more

Before Saturday night's Tree Lighting, residents of the greater Denmark area can stock up on unique Christmas gifts during the third rendition of a new local holiday season tradition. That day, the Denmark FFA Alumni and their supporters will facilitate the organization's 3rd Annual Farm Toy, Railroad & Vendor Show in the Denmark High School (DHS) Purple Gymnasium from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., with thousands of collectable items available for purchase.

51st Annual Denmark Lions Poinsettia Sale Sunday

After Saturday's Toy Show and Tree Lighting, the holiday festivities in Denmark will continue on Sunday with a longstanding local Christmas staple. That day, the Denmark Lions Club will host their 51st Annual Poinsettia Sale in the Denmark High School Gold Gymnasium with hundreds upon hundreds of the festive plants available for shoppers to purchase while supporting their organization.

2nd Annual Denmark Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday

This Saturday night, one and all are invited to the Denmark Depot building at the Devils River State Recreational Trailhead for a celebration of the beginning of the Christmas season that is purely Denmark.

Students of all ages show support

Following last Friday's thoughtful and moving Veterans Program at Denmark Middle School, the district's younger and older students showed their support for local service people with back-to-back programs on Veterans Day itself. On Tuesday morning, local veterans and their families joined with the students and staff of both schools for two more salutes to their service.

"Honoring all who served"

On November 7, the students and staff of Denmark Middle School (DMS) welcomed local veterans and their families for an annual celebration of all those who have served our nation in the armed forces. That morning, DMS hosted its yearly Veterans Day Program featuring patriotic music, speeches and donations to veteran charities.

Maribel board raises fees, approves preliminary budget

Last Wednesday, the Village of Maribel hosted their monthly Board of Trustees meeting in the municipal Community Center. Among major topics of discussion were the potential raising of fees as well as the approval of the preliminary budget for 2026.

Lucy the goat addressed yet again

Last Monday, the Village of Denmark Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting in Village Hall. During the short, and overall uneventful, proceedings, the subject of Emotional Support Animals, or ESAs, was once again discussed.

Radtke Road boils over once again

During last week's Town of Cooperstown Board of Supervisors monthly meeting, tensions boiled over once again in the ongoing dispute of the cul-de-sac at the end of Radtke Road with both sides of the conflict breaking their silence and offering conflicting perspectives. Throughout 2025, the Cooperstown board has been navigating issues with the cul-de-sac stemming from a series of alleged clerical and surveying errors dating back over three decades.
