Following last Friday's thoughtful and moving Veterans Program at Denmark Middle School, the district's younger and older students showed their support for local service people with back-to-back programs on Veterans Day itself. On Tuesday morning, local veterans and their families joined with the students and staff of both schools for two more salutes to their service.

On November 7, the students and staff of Denmark Middle School (DMS) welcomed local veterans and their families for an annual celebration of all those who have served our nation in the armed forces. That morning, DMS hosted its yearly Veterans Day Program featuring patriotic music, speeches and donations to veteran charities.

Last Wednesday, the Village of Maribel hosted their monthly Board of Trustees meeting in the municipal Community Center. Among major topics of discussion were the potential raising of fees as well as the approval of the preliminary budget for 2026.

Last Monday, the Village of Denmark Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting in Village Hall. During the short, and overall uneventful, proceedings, the subject of Emotional Support Animals, or ESAs, was once again discussed.

During last week's Town of Cooperstown Board of Supervisors monthly meeting, tensions boiled over once again in the ongoing dispute of the cul-de-sac at the end of Radtke Road with both sides of the conflict breaking their silence and offering conflicting perspectives. Throughout 2025, the Cooperstown board has been navigating issues with the cul-de-sac stemming from a series of alleged clerical and surveying errors dating back over three decades.

This Advent, All Saints Catholic Church is welcoming one and all for "three evenings of stories, Scripture and conversation" to spiritually prepare for the Christmas season.

On Sunday, November 9, All Saints Catholic Church welcomed local veterans for a special Mass honoring their service. Following Mass, all were welcome to enjoy a breakfast and social compliments of the parish’s Hearts & Hands Committee. During the meal, Denmark’s Aaron Arneson served as Guest Speaker and provided an overview of his time in the Air Force and what serving the nation truly means before and after enlistment.

Last week, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) released the School and District Report Cards for the 2024-2025 school year with the Mishicot School District stating they have "plenty to celebrate". We spoke with Superintendent Cory Erlandson to learn more about this year's results. 

On November 8 and 9, a significant portion of Denmark High School (DHS) was transformed into a one-of-a-kind exhibition of local artistic talent and craftsmanship. That weekend, the Northeast Wisconsin Woodworkers Guild (NEWWG) hosted their 42nd Annual Artistry in Wood in the school's gymnasium and atrium with over 50 artists from across the region displaying a wide array of creations.

This year's Denmark High School (DHS) production of Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical features musical and theatrical magic from start to finish and immerses audiences in a whimsical world populated by larger-than-life characters.

Editor's Note: This article was originally intended to run with our Halloween coverage last week but had to be postponed due to an excess of news. Although less timely, we still believe it is a fun and interesting look into some local urban legends.

This month, a number of dedicated area residents are hard at work organizing a community celebration of the holiday season. On November 29, the Village of Denmark Community and Business Relations Committee (DCBRC) and their partners will host the second annual Denmark Christmas Tree Lighting featuring an array of decorated trees, holiday crafts, a visit from Santa and much, much more.

Last week, Gerald and Dianne Steinberger stopped by our office to share an interesting and moving story about a fallen veteran in their family whose legacy is still being kept alive over eight decades after he died fighting for our country.

This hunting season, students and staff at Denmark Middle School (DMS) are asking local sportsmen to help them help those who have served our country. From now through December 20, the DMS FFA will be collecting discarded deer hides for the "Hides for Heroes" which strives to help our nation's veterans.

On Saturday, November 1, local veterans and their families joined together to honor and celebrate their service. That night, the Denmark American Legion Johnson-Hershman Post 363 and Denmark VFW Post 6705 held their annual Veterans Banquet at Gatherings 43 featuring food, drinks and an excellent guest speaker in local broadcasting legend John Maino.
