On Saturday, hundreds of booyah lovers flocked to the world-famous Circle Tap for an annual competition celebrating the succulent stew while raising funds for a fantastic local organization. That afternoon, supporters of Denmark Sting Cancer hosted their 28th Annual Booyah Cook-Off at the acclaimed tavern with nine local chefs facing off in a friendly competition to determine who has the best recipe.

As the road construction season begins to draw to a close, many across the area are left wondering why yet another summer has passed with seemingly no change in the dilapidated state of Kvitek Road. For years, a section of the road that is shared between the Village of Denmark and the Town of New Denmark has drawn the ire of motorists for its bumps and potholes, made all the worse by a series of s-curves where the road meets State Highway 96.

Last week, many in the Denmark area were saddened to hear of the passing of Floyd Ferdon. For many years, Floyd was a familiar face in the Village of Denmark where he worked at Brown County Publishing Company for nearly three decades, leaving a lasting impression of kindheartedness on many who worked with him.

During last Monday's Town of Glenmore Board of Supervisors Meeting, another lengthy and divisive discussion was held revolving around a quarry operated by Michels Road & Stone on the northwestern border of the municipality. After disagreeing on a permit violation fine regarding the quarry last month, the board once again clashed over a new permit for the same quarry.

This school year, among many new staff members joining the Denmark School District, is a somewhat familiar face in the new high school social studies teacher--Christian Derenne. Derenne assumed his new position at the beginning of this school year and has spent the last three weeks settling into the district and the community.

Last Thursday, The Denmark News ventured out to Allouez to get an up-close look at a longtime Denmark area resident's meticulous model hobby creations which pay homage to his hometown. For a while now, I have heard of an extensive and unique model railroad located in Vic and Kathryn Kapinos's basement that contains familiar sights from the greater Denmark-Maribel area.

For over two decades from 1900 until the mid-1920s, the Maribel Caves Hotel flourished as a vacation and wellness destination with patrons traveling from near and far to experience the grand structure, the scenic landscape and the famed mineral spring water for themselves. Unfortunately, the glory days were not to last, and the next hundred years were not kind to the historic building.

Over the past two years, motorists traveling into Mishicot along State Highway 147 have no doubt noticed a great deal of activity near the Village's western border. There, a group of dedicated community members have been hard at work building a new, state-of-the-art athletic complex to be enjoyed for generations to come.

On Saturday morning, over 200 local golfers converged on Wander Springs for this year's 24th Annual Denmark Knights of Columbus Golf Outing. On top of a great game of golf, the event featured numerous opportunities for prizes and fun with all proceeds from this year's outing going to Kelsey Wavrunek.

Last Tuesday night, the Town of Cooperstown Board of Supervisors convened their regular monthly meeting in their Town Hall in Rosecrans. Among a variety of topics addressed was how much to budget for 2026 road projects and which roadways to prioritize.

At the end of last Monday's Village of Denmark Board of Trustees monthly meeting, a rather unconventional discussion was held which centered around mental health, proper animal care and a goat by the name of Lucy.

During last week's monthly Village of Denmark Board of Trustees meeting, the subject of crosswalks during before and after school was once again raised with another lengthy discussion being held. Recently, there has been some debate over replacing the crossing guards at two intersections in the Village with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) due to a recent inability to find candidates.

Last Thursday, a steady line of tractors could be seen making their way throughout the towns of Eaton and Humboldt as a local club took part in an annual patriotic display. That afternoon, the Titletown Threshing Club hosted their yearly 9/11 Tractor Ride with nearly 30 riders taking part. The Denmark News stopped by CZ's Bushville Lanes to send the procession off and learn more.

Last Wednesday, The Denmark News was out and about bright and early for a special new event at a great local park. That morning, the Friends of Neshota Park hosted the Bay Area Bird Club for an early-morning Bird Walk through the scenic park. We joined the birdwatchers to learn more.

Last Saturday, area veterans joined together outside the Denmark American Legion Clubhouse for an annual rite that respectfully honors and disposes of a symbol of our nation. That morning, members of the  Denmark VFW Post 6705 and American Legion Post 363 hosted their yearly Retirement Ceremony to properly destroy worn and damaged American flags collected throughout the year.

Saturday's pristine weather had the perfect conditions for a yearly sporting tradition in the small community of Poland, Wisconsin. That day, the Eaton Community Ball Diamond was host to the 14th Annual Eaton Beavers Pumpkin Ball Tournament with six local teams facing off in a double-elimination bracket throughout a day of oversized softball and fun.
