Last month, the Denmark Lions delivered dictionaries to 122 third grade students at Denmark Elementary School! The third graders are learning how to individually find and research answers, and their dictionaries will be a valuable resource to help them develop skills in finding solutions to the questions they have. This November, some dedicated students from Denmark High School (DHS) are working together to provide a much-needed, but often overlooked, resource for those in need. From November 3 through the 25, the DHS Global Scholars Club will be collecting shoes for the "Shoes for Africa" initiative operated by Soles for Jesus, and they are asking the greater Denmark community to help in their mission.

On Tuesday, Americans across the nation will go about the traditions associated with the observance of Veterans Day. Each November 11, the country sets aside a day to pay their respects to and honor all those who served in the armed forces and remember all they gave to defend our freedoms. This week, The Denmark News pays tribute to our local vets with a special section dedicated to their service.

 This weekend, along with the musical magic taking place at Denmark High School (See Page 1), another area school will be presenting their own fall show you will surely not want to miss.

On Friday, costumed youngsters and their families took to the streets across the nation on their annual quest for sugary snacks. Locally, the yearly Halloween traditions were in full swing across the greater Denmark community with plenty of fun and sweets for all who partook. The Denmark News was out and about on Halloween night to learn more.

This week, the stage is set, the pit is tuned and the actors are rehearsed for something magical at Denmark High School (DHS).

Last week, a team of local young people celebrated a tremendous achievement for their organization and their communities. On October 26, the Denmark-Luxemburg Equestrian Team won their first-ever State Title at this year's Wisconsin Interscholastic Horsemanship Association (WIHA) State Championship in Madison signifying the culmination of a season, and several years before, of hard work.

The "American Legion" was founded in Paris, France on 3/19/1919 following the aftermath of WWI. It was quickly chartered by our US congress on 9/16/1919. Our Denmark Post was chartered on 6/22/1922. Our First Post Commander was a prominent doctor in Denmark, Dr. Frank Hagar. He and others had fought in WWI and returned to Denmark and saw the immediate need for such an organization.

On November 8 and 9, one and all are invited to Denmark High School (DHS) to take in an incredible display of local craftsmanship and artistic talent. That weekend, the Northeast Wisconsin Woodworkers Guild (NEWWG) will host their 42nd Annual "Artistry in Wood" Show in the school's gymnasium featuring over fifty artists from across the region.

With fall weather fully setting in, many thoughts are turning to the upcoming holiday season. However, in Denmark, a group of dedicated and caring community members have already been planning a special Thanksgiving dinner for months. The Denmark Community Thanksgiving Dinner has been hosted by local volunteers for ten years now and has seen hundreds of people come together to enjoy fellowship and a delicious meal.

Last Monday, the Denmark Middle School and High School Choirs held their annual Fall Concerts in the DHS Performing Arts Center. The program highlighted “sounds of the season” with a number of spooky Halloween-inspired musical selections.

While Halloween is a beloved annual tradition for many, the associated observances do come with a variety of safety concerns. With Halloween this Friday, we thought it would be prudent to share tips for a safer holiday experience with our readers. On Thursday, we sat down with Denmark DEOs JJ Rusk and JR Pigeon to get their advice on how everyone can make sure this Halloween is a fun and safe experience for all.

On Saturday, a number of youth and adults from the greater Denmark area were out and about making a difference in their community. That morning, One Degree Youth Ministry teamed up with the Denmark Knights of Columbus Father Platta Council #4735 for this year's "Make a Difference Day" initiative which sent them across the local area to help others.

During this month's meeting of the Denmark School Board, the district officially concluded its latest referendum which saw the construction of the new addition to the elementary school allowing the consolidation of all schools to one campus as well as a number of other district-wide improvements.

On Saturday, thousands of candy-seekers gathered outside Denmark Elementary School for a local Halloween tradition celebrating the greater Denmark community. That afternoon, the Village of Denmark's Denmark Community and Business Relations Committee (DCBRC) hosted their first-ever rendition of Denmark Trunk or Treat with plenty of candy, prizes and fun to go around.

On Sunday, hundreds of costumed youngsters and their parents descended on the grass behind St. John Lutheran Church and School in Maribel for a fun Halloween tradition that gave sweet seekers a head start on their yearly candy quota.
