Last Thursday, students from the Denmark Early Childhood Center (ECC) got a special up-close and firsthand look at fire safety with help from the Denmark Volunteer Fire Department. That morning, students visited the station and were given demonstrations from community firefighters to explain how and why they do what they do to prevent and fight fires.

At 4:30 p.m. last Monday, the Village of Denmark held their monthly board meeting in the new Village Hall in the former BMO Harris Bank building. Among topics discussed were potential future housing developments in the village and the appointment to vacant village government officials. 

Last Saturday, the Maribel community got a head start on the Halloween season with a fun family tradition for all to enjoy. That afternoon, St. John's Lutheran Church played host to their annual Trunk or Treat in the parking lot and grounds around their church.

Last Saturday, members of the Denmark High School FFA were out and about across the community showing their appreciation for local farmers. That morning, fifteen student volunteers met at the high school before splitting up into five teams. The teams then went out and each visited an assigned list of area farms.

Last Tuesday, the Town of Cooperstown held their monthly board meeting in their Town Hall in Rosecrans. Following the call to order by Chairman Dave Blakeslee, the Pledge of Allegiance and the roll call that showed all board members in attendance, the board moved on to the monthly reports from various town officials.

Last Monday night, the Village of Maribel held their monthly meeting at the Community Center in the village park. While the meeting was brief (possibly due to the evening's ongoing Packers game), exciting developments for the future of the community were discussed.

When purchasing a vehicle, most buyers have a "wish list" of wants and needs. These usually include available seating, gas mileage, trunk space etc. What these wish lists rarely, if ever, include is 1750 GPM Waterous water pump. However, if someone in the Denmark area were looking for a vehicle with such a requirement, they would be in luck this month.

On Sunday, October 8, the Denmark Cub Scout Pack 4052 took part in a fun and festive fundraiser that left the community looking much more in the fall spirit. That day, the scouts took part in the annual “Scout Your Yard” event that featured volunteers decorating a number of signed up homes for the fall season.

On Saturday, October 14, the Denmark Norsemen Snowmobile Club held their annual Steak Fry fundraiser at the Maribel Community Center. The event featured a delicious all-you-can-eat steak dinner with all the fixings served up by club members and their families. Along with the titular steak dinner, the event also featured a cash bar, bucket raffles and door prizes.

On Saturday, October 7, the traditional Homecoming Dance was held in the gymnasium at Denmark High School. High schoolers from across all grade levels were invited to join in the annual celebration that followed the week's Disney/Pixar theme.

Last week, a longtime fixture of the Denmark community helped make history in a "big" way. On October 4, 2023, Dufeck Wood Products was part of a team that achieved a coveted Guinness World Records title for the world's largest charcuterie board.

Last week, readers may have noticed a good deal of hustle and bustle around the longtime Denmark institution --Village Meats. All week, crews were hard at work installing new siding and replacing the roof of the historic business that has been part of the Denmark community for over 75 years.

In June, we reported on Tim Czarneski taking over 141 Speedway, a business he is more than a little familiar with from his years of racing there. This month, Tim took over the operation of another, even more familiar business. Starting last week, Tim and his wife Leah are officially the owners and operators of Cz's Bushville Lanes, which has been successfully operated by Tim's parents Dick and Donna Czarneski for nearly twenty years.

Last Tuesday, prior to their regular monthly meeting, the Denmark Knights of Columbus Father Platta Council #4735 held a moving and emotional ceremony. That night, the council presented the proceeds from their recent golf outing to a worthy recipient and his family to try and help them navigate an extremely difficult time. 

Last week, the Denmark School District and the community as a whole came together to celebrate all things Denmark Vikings in a week-long commemoration of a longtime favorite fall tradition.

Last Friday, Denmark High School students and staff kicked off game day with an all day celebration of class pride and school spirit. Prior to the afternoon's parade through town, DHS was home to a wild and zany assembly that featured an array of crazy competitions pitting students against each other by grade level.

On Friday afternoon, the Denmark School District as well as the Denmark community as a whole assembled for an annual tradition that has been a staple of the Homecoming festivities for decades. As always, the yearly Homecoming Parade through town was a festive and fun endeavor for all involved and served as a great way to celebrate Viking pride along with a litany of school activities.
