Last week, the Denmark Fire Department welcomed a long awaited and much anticipated addition to their fleet. Last Friday, they were delivered a brand new Marion Body Works Fire & Emergency Engine. The engine, which will now be designated with number 1412, contains a 1500 GPM pump and tanks for 1000 gallons of water and 30 gallons of foam. The Truck will replace the 1979 Pierce Engine that was refurbished in 1997.

Last Sunday, the area churches Faith and Fellowship organization, consisting of representatives from a number of local parishes, hosted an end of summer “Lunch in the Park” picnic event at Memorial Park in Denmark. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., all were welcome to come enjoy a delicious picnic meal and some great socializing.

On Sunday, September 10, St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown was host to a moving and powerful event. That day, the parish hosted a Grief Support Group in the Parish Hall to help any and all in the community working their way through the loss of someone in their life. The event, organized by the Circles of Faith Bereavement Ministry led by Tom Bekkers, featured a special guest speaker, Dr. Ilene Cupit, Professor Emerita of Psychology at UWGB. Dr.

Last Tuesday, the Town of Cooperstown held their monthly board meeting at their town hall in Rosecrans. Following the call to order by Chairmen Blakeslee, the Pledge of Allegiance and the roll call that showed all members and support staff present, the board unanimously approved both the minutes from last month's meeting and that evening's agenda before proceeding to monthly reports.

Last Monday afternoon, the Village of Denmark held their monthly board meeting in the new Village Hall at 100 North Wall Street. This month, major topics of discussion included how to handle "fugitive dust" this harvest season and a presentation of the Annual Financial Statement among other issues.

On Monday, September 11th, the Denmark School Board held their monthly meeting. Due to the large turnout of OneDenmark supporters (see OneDenmark on page 1), this month's meeting was held in the Denmark High School Performing Arts Center instead of the usual Media Center (library).

Last Sunday, CZ's Bushville Lanes in Eaton was packed, inside and out, to assist a beloved local family and celebrate a life well lived. That day, hundreds upon hundreds of community members came out to show their support for the Schlies family and offer them some help in this extremely trying time.

Last Saturday, Wander Springs Golf Course was teaming with action and excitement as a yearly tradition for a great cause unfolded there. That day, the Denmark Knights of Columbus Father Platta Council #4735 hosted their 22nd Annual Benefit Golf Outing in an event for the ages that featured prizes, food, drinks, fun and, of course, golf.

Last week's Denmark School Board Meeting featured a historic and potentially community-altering request on behalf of OneDenmark. The meeting, held last Monday night at 6 p.m., was attended by nearly forty OneDenmark supporters and was held in the Performing Arts Center in the high school due to this added turnout.

Last Saturday, the small community of Poland, Wisconsin was the site of a fun yearly sports competition for a great cause. That day, the 12th annual Eaton Pumpkin Ball tournament was played at the Eaton Baseball Diamond behind the Town Hall. Starting at 9:45 a.m. and stretching throughout the beautiful Saturday, seven local teams competed in the modified softball game for the coveted championship title.

This summer, a number of members from the Denmark FFA participated in the adventure of a lifetime halfway around the world. From July 10th through the 19th, 12 DHS students and two chaperones made the journey to South Africa where they participated in a whirlwind of a tour of the country's sights, wildlife and culture. 

On Saturday, September 9, the small community of Wayside was host to a historic event for the ages. Throughout that day and night, hundreds upon hundreds came out to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the town's fire department. The event, held at the fire department and adjoining park, featured a variety of activities that offered fun for all ages.

Last Sunday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church held their annual Fall Festival and Car Show fundraiser in and around their church on the southeastern corner of the Village of Denmark. The massive, multi-faceted event was a massive hit despite a less-than-favorable forecast, with hundreds upon hundreds pouring out to support the parish and have some good old fashioned fun.

Last Tuesday, September 5th, the buses were rolling and the bells were ringing in Denmark as students and staff returned to school for another year of learning. The Denmark News was on the scene Tuesday morning as the waves of students made their way into their respective schools for the first day.

While back to school can often be a stressful and hectic time for students, it can be even more so for educators. This week, while students across the school district were getting back in the swing of things for another school year, their teachers were doing the same.

Last Thursday night from 4 to 6 p.m. All Saints Catholic School in Denmark opened its doors and welcomed students and their families for a special “Back to School Night”. All Saints families were welcome to enjoy a hot dog or brat dinner provided by the Home and School organization while they visited with friends, greeted their teachers and stocked up their school supplies for the year.

Last week, we got the chance to visit with Jim Crawford to learn about his unique property northwest of the Village of Denmark. Many may not know this, but on the corner of Town Hall Road and Ronk Road in the Town of New Denmark is a large field that is reported to be the largest prairie in Brown County.
