Last Sunday July 16, DD’s in downtown Denmark hosted their first ever “Namaste and Party All Day” event on the patio beside their bar. That morning from 11 a.m. to noon, Heather Propson led attendees in yoga on the grass beside the outdoor bar which was open all day with specials on “summery” drinks. Following the yoga session, the patio hosted Denmark’s own Mark Jirikovec with his MJ Combo who performed their signature polka hits from 1-5 p.m.

Last Tuesday, July 11th, the Town of Cooperstown held their monthly board meeting at their Town Hall in Rosecrans. Along with the usual reports and updates from various town officials, topics of discussion included excessive hauling on town roads and a potential ordinance to combat the issue.

On Thursday, July 13th, the Village of Denmark Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting at their new Village Hall in the former BMO Harris Bank building. Although village offices have not been able to make the transition to the new site yet, the board has been able to host their meetings amid the renovations.

This weekend, Memorial Park in downtown Denmark will be host to a weekend of excitement and fun. Final preparations are underway as local organizations get ready for two jam packed days that promise to have something for fun-lovers of all ages.

This week, with the dog-days of summer truly upon us, work continued on numerous road construction projects throughout the area as well as began on some new ones. 

At their meeting last Thursday, the Denmark Village Board unanimously agreed to significant changes to the traffic flow on the northern end of the village. After months of discussion about how to properly handle safety issues caused by the busy intersection of North Avenue and Woodrow Street, the board ultimately decided to add two stop signs making it a four-way stop.

Last Tuesday, vendors hosted the first Denmark Farmers Market of 2023 in the parking lot near Main Street Market in downtown Denmark. This first week featured two local growers, Greilings Farms and Ron and Alice Mancheski, with more expected to join as the season goes on. For four hours on Tuesday afternoon, the growers sold their produce from their tents.

Last Wednesday, music fans from across the area assembled in the gymnasium at Mishicot Elementary School for a night of great polka sound courtesy of Jerry Voelker & the Jolly Gents. Starting at 6:30 p.m., Voelker and his talented band took to the stage and blasted out hit after hit as the crowd danced and listened along.

Last week, a number of area middle school students took part in a one-of-a-kind experience aimed at helping their community as well as expanding and deepening their faith. From June 24th through the 27th, nine middle schoolers along with two high school mentors and four chaperones took part in this year's "Middle School Mission Week".

Last Monday, July 3rd, thousands of people descended on the normally peaceful Village of Kellnersville for a yearly tradition celebrating our nation and its freedoms. That night, the Kellnersville Betterment Association (KBA) hosted their annual fireworks display at their park in the heart of the village featuring over twenty minutes of exhilarating explosive excitement.

Last weekend, much of the Denmark community was captivated by an annual tradition that many have come to look forward to year after year. Over the course of four days, sixteen elite teams competed on three fields at two venues with thousands of spectators taking in this year's Boys of Summer Tournament.

Last Thursday June 29, the community building organization One Denmark hosted a "listening session" with representatives from Brown County Library at the Early Childhood Center (ECC) to discuss and brainstorm a potential partnership between the two in the near future.

During last week's June School Board Meeting held in the media center of the high school, Village of Denmark President Susan Selner provided a request to the board pertaining to the future of the current Early Childhood Center (ECC) building and grounds. 

On Monday June 26, the School District of Denmark held their monthly board meeting in the media center (library) of the high school. Topics of discussion included an update on the upcoming referendum and changes to the district's handbooks among many others.

Last Thursday June 29, local firefighters from across the area were hard at work fighting an early morning fire in a barn in the Town of New Denmark.

This week, final preparations are underway on the ball diamonds and adjoining facilities at Circle Tap and Memorial Park for a legendary couple days of softball. This weekend, the two venues will host the annual Boys of Summer tournament, featuring non-stop fast pitch softball action from some of the best players from across the world over the course of four short days.
